ERIC C. BERGE

Funeral Services for Eric Berge, 55, of Aurelia, Iowa, will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., with the family being present from 6:00 – 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Eric Christian Berge was born June 11, 1958, at Sioux Valley Hospital, Cherokee, IA, the son of Richard Deane and Anna Jeanette (Larsen) Berge. Eric was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alta, IA.  Eric was always deeply religious and was constantly praying for all those who surrounded him.  His devotion to God was strong and he would often recite passages from the Bible.

He grew up and received his education in Aurelia, graduating from Aurelia High School in 1976. Following high school Eric completed one year of college at Dana, Blair, NE.

One of Eric’s favorite hobbies was fishing. He also had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.  He was an avid writer and left us with many short essays and poems.  Eric was an accomplished golfer and would continue to amaze all who played with him as he never practiced and would seldom play.

For several years, Eric lived at Pride Group, LeMars, IA where he enjoyed the companionship of friends and staff.  The last weeks of his life were spent at Cherokee Villa where he received care and kindness from the staff, and members of Iowa Hospice.

Eric died Saturday, August 10, 2013 under hospice care at Cherokee Villa, in Cherokee, IA.

Preceding Eric in death were his father Richard D. Berge, grandparents Ernest and Laura (Brodale) Berge, and Lewis and Minna (Rasmussen) Larsen.

Survivors include his mother: Anna Berge, five siblings:  Steven and his wife Jean Berge of Iowa City, IA; Beth and her husband Russ Winterhof of Aurelia, IA; Joel Berge of San Mateo, CA; Rebecca and her husband Fred Haberecht of Fort Collins, CO, and Jennifer Berge and her husband Bob Morgan of Burlington, IA., nine nieces and nephews:  Katie Berge, Kristine Berge, Nathan and his wife Sara Winterhof, Ehren and his wife Karen Winterhof, Philip Winterhof, Hannah Haberecht, Freddie Haberecht, Zachary Morgan, and Lauren Morgan, and  grand-nephew: Gabriel Winterhof.
