Funeral services for Lola Jean Lehnhardt, 81, of Aurelia, will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 30, 2011 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Lola Jean Struve was born on May 9, 1930, the daughter of Fred and Ruth (Wenzel) Struve at Quimby, Iowa. She attended school in Pierson, and graduated in 1947. Lola worked as a telephone operator in Storm Lake until 1960 when she married Clayton Burdette “Cullie” Lehnhardt on April 23 in Sioux City, IA. They made their home in Aurelia. Lola’s work experience outside the home included selling Avon, managing the Pizza Hut and later Godfather’s Pizza in Cherokee, and as a nurse’s aide at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia, Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, and Hill Top Care Center in Cherokee. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Lola enjoyed gardening and flowers, crocheting, her pets, taking photos, learning about her computer, and traveling to visit family.
Lola died Friday, November 25, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Newell, Iowa, where she had been a resident for several months.
Preceding Lola in death were her parents, her husband Cullie, two sisters, LaVonne Trusty and Lorraine McCory, and one brother, LeRoy Struve.
Survivors include her three children, Celeste Christensen of Seattle, WA, Jeff Lehnhardt and his wife Linda Fritz of Verona, KY, and Sally Lehnhardt of Campton Hills, IL, and one granddaughter, Krista Nicole Lehnhardt. Also surviving are one sister, Leona Jensen of Newell, one brother, Leon Struve of Killeen, TX, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
