HAROLD BROWNMILLER, JR.

Funeral services for Harold Brownmiller, Jr., 80, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with the family present, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Harold was born January 19, 1932, the son of Harold and Lela (Cave) Brownmiller near Cherokee, Iowa. He attended school in Quimby and Aurelia, graduating from the Aurelia High School in 1950. On June 3, 1951 Harold married Joan Huseman at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Harold worked as a farm hand for Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Nelson, later for Skelly Oil and then for Farmer’s Coop tank wagon service, and he was an Aurelia school bus driver.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Aurelia Fire Department where he served as chief for many years, and the American Legion. He served as an Elder for the church, and on the Aurelia City Council. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, his coffee “club”, antiques, his kids and grandkids activities, and repairing things.

Harold died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee.

Preceding Harold in death were his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Joan Brownmiller of Aurelia, one daughter, Roxy Richard and her husband Bob of Shawnee, KS, one son, Steve Brownmiller and his wife Kathy of Denison. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Erin Martin, Sean Richard, Lindi and husband Brian Dugan, Brien and husband Mike Kennedy, Megan and husband Mike Wilbur, Dan Berens, Sean Berens, and Carter Berens, six great-grandchildren; Delaney, Ryleigh, Avery, Presly, Hayden, and Chase, two brothers; Francis “Red” and his wife Gayle Brownmiller of Aurelia, Roger and his wife LaVonne Brownmiller of Mason City, IA, one sister, Carolyn and her husband Bob Meyer of Naples, FL, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
