SHIRLEY A. HILSABECK

Funeral services for Shirley Hilsabeck, 78, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 13, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia.  The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Ann Sherkenbach was born on August 27, 1933, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Ernst and Alta (Nielsen) Sherkenbach. She graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1951, and then attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE.

On June 25, 1952 Shirley was united in marriage to Charles Edwin “Ed” Hilsabeck in Jackson, MN. She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone and at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute, retiring in 1992.

Shirley was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia where she was a member of the St. Paul Ladies Aide and was a Sunday school teacher. She liked crocheting, knitting, baking, and watching sporting events of her kids and grandkids.

Shirley died Sunday, April 8, 2012, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.Preceding Shirley in death were her parents, and her husband Ed Hilsabeck on August 12, 1984.Survivors include three sons; Chuck and his wife Cynda Hilsabeck of Pleasant Hill, IA, Kirk Hilsabeck of Lansing, IA, Cindy Hilsabeck of Strawberry Point, IA, and Kent and his wife Annette Hilsabeck of Manning. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Travis and wife Kristin Hilsabeck of Prairie City, IA, Tiffany Hilsabeck of Des Moines, IA, Brian Hilsabeck of Lansing, Kortney and husband Steve Moel of Lisbon, IA, Duncan and wife Melissa Hilsabeck of Bunnlevel, NC, Dereck Hilsabeck of Des Moines, and Daniel Hilsabeck of Manning, five great-grandchildren; Jovie Moel, Bria Moel, Ali Hilsabeck, Lincoln Hilsabeck, and Jackson Kerkhoff, her brother, Stan Sherkenbach of Cherokee, sister-in-law Joan Sherkenbach of Aurelia, and other relatives and friends.
