Funeral services for Betty Wieland, 83, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Thomas Petersen and Nelva Petersen officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 7:00, with the family present from 5:00 till 7:00, at the church. A memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Betty Lou Speers was born July 9, 1931, the daughter of Harold and Ruth (Mummert) Speers at Aurelia. She graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1949. On November 23, 1949, Betty married Donald Nelson Wieland at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, IA. They made their home in Aurelia. Betty worked as a sales clerk at the Fashion Shop in Aurelia, and later as the secretary for the Aurelia High School Principal from 1965 until her retirement. She served as a Cub Scout den mother for many years. Betty was an active member of the Aurelia First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Martha Circle and served on the funeral lunch committee, the Aurelia Heritage Society, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Betty died Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents, and her husband Don on August 19, 2007.
Survivors include two sons; David and his wife Susan Wieland of Kansas City, MO, and Dennis and his wife Janice Wieland of Aurelia, four grandchildren; Nicole and her husband Matt Busenbark of Kansas City, MO, Leah and her husband Dan Niemeier, Drew and his wife Shana Wieland, and Dustin Wieland all of Aurelia, four great-grandchildren; Bryce Busenbark, Gavin and Gracelyn Niemeier, and Reese Wieland, and one brother, Don and his wife Alice Speers of Storm Lake. Also surviving are seven step-grandchildren; Kristin and her husband Kai Lewis, St. Cloud, MN, Will and his wife Coralie Cosgrove and Wade and Harmony Cosgrove all of Portland, OR, Stephanie and her husband Steve Zarr of Cherokee, Peter Cosgrove of Quimby, and Emily and Addie Cosgrove both of Aurelia, ten step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
