Funeral services for Gladys Irene Huseman, 98, of Aurelia, formerly of Storm Lake and Schaller, will be held at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 3, 2014, with Pastor David Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the Schaller Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, and one hour prior to the service at the church in Schaller. The Redig Funeral Home of Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Gladys Irene Jacobson was born on September 4th, 1915 at Galva, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Challman) Jacobson. She graduated from Galva High School in 1932. After graduation she helped at home and did housework for others.
On December 17, 1936, Gladys married Martin Huseman. She and her husband bonded his two daughters; Beverly and Joan, with the two children; Gilbert and Lucille, that were subsequently born of their union to form one family. They farmed south of Galva until 1949, south of Aurelia for two years, the Newell area for one year, and east of Schaller until 1958 when they moved into Schaller. Gladys worked at the café, the school kitchen, and then for 20 years at the State Bank in Schaller. In December of 2001 she moved to Methodist Manor Residential living in Storm Lake, in 2003 she moved to Otsego Place Assisted Living in Storm Lake, and in November of 2006 she moved to Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia. Gladys was always very active in her church. She was a Sunday school teacher, and an officer of Ladies Aid Guild and Ladies Fellowship. She enjoyed gardening, was a 4H leader for several years, playing cards and belonged to several Bridge clubs, and time with her grandchildren. She always kept journals and enjoyed visits from family and friends.
Gladys died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Gladys in death were her parents, husband Martin Huseman, daughter Beverly and her husband Art Soellner, son-in-law Harold Brownmiller, Jr., sister Geraldine and husband Raymond Voss, two brothers-in-law, Werner Grieme and Orville Matzke, and infant grandson David Kent.
Survivors include her children; Joan Brownmiller of Aurelia, Gilbert and his wife Sharon Huseman of Muscatine, IA, and Lucille and her husband Duane Kent of Aurelia. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren: Beverly’s children; Vicki and Jim Woods, Doug and Sheila Soellner, Sue and Mark Gray, Becky and Rusty Neely, Brian and Rae Soellner, and Dan and Barb Soellner, Joan’s children; Roxy and Bob Richard and Steve and Kathy Brownmiller, Gil’s children; Loni and Scott Rhodes and Wenda and Pete Castillo, and Lucille’s children; Greg and Amy Kent and Heather and Scott Cole, 33 great-grandchildren, 23 great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Sharon Matzke of Omaha, NE, one brother, Darold and his wife JoAnn Jacobson of Schaller, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
