budnewsFuneral services for Vergil James “Bud” Dyslin, 83, of Storm Lake, IA, will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 28, 2014, at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake, with Pastor Don Gordon and Pastor Joey Dyslin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, with the family present, at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Vergil James Dyslin was born on August 10, 1930, the son of Floyd G. and Myrtle Fearn (Loving) Dyslin on a farm near Elk Point, South Dakota. He spent his childhood around Jefferson, S.D., where he received his early schooling. His family then moved to a farm near Cherokee. Bud graduated from the Quimby High School. He helped his dad with the farming until he entered the Marine Corps in 1952 during the Korean Conflict. On June 15, 1952 he was united in marriage to Cleone Louise Van Winkle at the Church of Christ in Storm Lake. This union was blessed with three children; Ronald, Sharmin, and Kimberly. After returning from service they settled in Cherokee and he worked as a meat cutter for the Swanson Grocery Store. He also worked for Fareway and Super Value in Storm Lake. He later worked for Sears for nearly 20 years. After the Sears store closed he became a licensed realtor until his wife needed him to help her run her business, Natures Nutrition Center which she operated for 20 years. He retired in 2001. Bud was very active in the Church of Christ, having served as an elder, deacon, and Sunday school teacher. He loved to read, enjoyed his vegetable garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bud died Friday, April 25, 2014, at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Preceding Bud in death were his parents, one brother, Harold Dyslin, and two sisters; Dorris Deaton and Evelyn Sassman.

Survivors include his wife Cleone Dyslin of Storm Lake, one son, Ron and his wife Christine Dyslin of Warrenville, IL, two daughters; Sharmin and her husband Charles Ziska of West Valley City, UT, and Kimberly Dahm of Storm Lake. Also surviving are four granddaughters; Chelsea Dahm of Tiffin, OH, Emily Dahm of Los Angeles, CA, Eleanor Dyslin of Boulder, CO, and Elizabeth Dyslin of Warrenville, IL, three brothers; Donald and his wife Darlene Dyslin of Minneapolis, MN, Larry and his wife Elaine Dyslin of Wheat Ridge, CO, and Joey and his wife Kathy Dyslin of Cherokee, and two sisters; Donna McKissock of St. Paul, MN, and Diane Quevedo of Richardson, TX, one sister-in-law, Elaine Dyslin of Norfolk, NE, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
