Alice Libke, 88, of Aurelia, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Alice was cremated and there will be no visitation. The Redig Funeral Home of Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Maxine Lydell was born September 12, 1921, the daughter of John and Clara (Moding) Lydell at Aurelia. She attended grade school at Afton #1 in Cherokee County, two years of high school at Brooke Consolidated School, and two years at Aurelia, graduating with the class of 1940. She then attended Cosmetology Beauty Academy in Sioux City, working in several shops in Sioux City and Aurelia. On December 4, 1943, Alice married Albert Libke at the Presbyterian parsonage in Storm Lake. In 1962 she became employed as a certified nurse’s aide at Sunset Knoll Retirement Home in Aurelia until she retired in 1987. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she was a member of WELCA. She enjoyed the companionship of the circle meetings and quilting session as well as the services. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #390 where she held several offices and remained active until her health failed. Alice loved gardening and flowers, and enjoyed God’s creations. Alice became a resident of Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia two years ago.

Preceding Alice in death were her husband Albert on November 24, 1991, her parents, three brothers, Erving, Merle, and Roy, one sister, Lois Jesse, and son Duane in his youth.

Survivors include three children, Darrell and his wife Nancy Libke of Sumner, IA, and their daughter Adrianne and fiancé Ryan Kuchta of Appleton, WI, Dennis and his wife Leann Libke of Osgood, IN, and their daughters Angela Brown of Monett, MO, and Jenifer Lohman of Indianapolis, IN, and Ellen Libke of Sioux Falls, SD. Also surviving are two great-granddaughters, Amber and Courtney Brown, one brother, Everett and his wife Carol Lydell of Brookings, OR, brother-in-law Glen Jesse of Storm Lake, and several nieces and nephews.
