Funeral services for Imogene M. Nixon, 85, will be Monday, February 22, 2010, at 2:00 P.M., at the First Baptist Church in Storm Lake with Pastor Tom Hinshaw officiating. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Imogene died Thursday, February 18, 2010, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Imogene M. Andersen was born November 17, 1924, the daughter of Neils and Helga (Larsen) Andersen in Corely, Iowa. She attended thirteen different schools around the Harlan area before her graduation there in 1942. On July 3, 1943 Imogene married Paul Nixon at Dakota City, Nebraska. They lived in Storm Lake where she was employed at Tiny to Teen, Janssen’s Fabric Store, Renshaw Plumbing as the bookkeeper, and at the canning factory. She retired in 1980. Imogene was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school secretary, and was a member of circles and guilds. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, crocheting, knitting, and other hand crafts. She was a resident of Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.
After the death of her husband Paul, Imogene met widower Verne Bartlett and they became special friends, residing winters in Texas, and when not traveling they spent summers in Saginaw, Michigan. Verne passed away on April 23, 2003, and Imogene then moved back to Storm Lake.
Preceding Imogene in death were her parents and her husband Paul on December 7, 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda and her husband Lloyd Myers of Aurelia, IA, and Paula and her husband Mark Phillips of Onia, AR, six grandchildren, Blake and his wife Noelani Uhl of Palmyra, PA, Molli and her husband Doug Jones of North Liberty, IA, Mitch and his wife Amanda Myers of Polk City, IA, Nick and his wife Melissa Phillips of Springdale, AR, Matt and his wife Beverly Phillips of Whitestown, IN, and Lydia Phillips of Conway, AR, and eight great-grandchildren, Dakota and Jessica Uhl, Simon Jones, Ava Myers, Molly Phillips, and John, Madison, and Cassandra Phillips. Also surviving are one brother, Roger and his wife Joan Andersen of Ames, IA, four nieces and one nephew, and Verne Bartlett’s three sons and their families, Bruce Bartlett of Irving, TX, Neil Bartlett of Findley, OH, and Al Bartlett of St. Joseph, MI.
