Funeral services for Doris B. French, 102, of Cherokee, formerly of Peterson, will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, with Pastor Michael Hyde officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Peterson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 until service time at the church.  The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Doris died on Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherokee.

Doris Belle Chesler was born November 26, 1907, the daughter of Robert and Rose May (Smith) Chesler at Sutherland, IA. She attended school in Peterson. On June 4, 1928 Doris married Harry Avery French at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, IA. To this union one son, Ronald, was born in 1939. Doris enjoyed working on the farm north of Peterson for 60 years before she moved into town. Doris attended the First Congregational Church from the age of four where she taught Sunday school and directed the junior choir for 29 years.

Doris enjoyed raising calves and pigs, the runts when ready for market provided her extra money to buy antiques. She liked sharing memories of the past, her garden vegetables, sewing, quilting, collecting dolls and antiques, and her museum which she began in 1985. Doris was often found working in her extensive flower gardens which were in bloom all season. Until the time of her death Doris was still managing her farm land and watching the markets.

Preceding Doris in death were her parents, son Ronald French in 1964 in an automobile accident in Buffalo, NY, husband Harry in 1984, and her sister Lucille Iwen.

Left to remember Doris are nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
