Dian Marie Westphal, the daughter of Ervin Carl and Rose Mary (Pitts) Westphal was born May 26, 1955, in Cherokee, Iowa. She attended school in Aurelia and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1973. On December 28, 1973 Dian married Ronald John “Ron” Anderson at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, IA.
Dian was a dedicated wife and mother as she and Ron grew their farm and family in rural Aurelia. They have shared their love for the community of Aurelia in numerous ways over the years.
Dian was an active member of the Aurelia business community, as owner of The Side Pocket, President/member of Aurelia Commercial Club, and later on as an epic Manager of the Aurelia Golf Club and Event Planner for Anderson Crop Insurance. She also enjoyed helping local business owners during her time at Perkins Office Supply in Cherokee.
Dian worked tirelessly to support her kids and became known as a second mom to many through various volunteer efforts. She organized award-winning opening ceremonies as Social Director for the CABA Tournament Committee, ran best-in-conference concessions as an Aurelia Booster Club member, and supplied fan gear as a member of the original Warrior Booster Club. Dian served as Coach for Odyssey of the Mind teams and as a beloved Team Mom/Chauffeur for countless sporting events. Dian and Ron earned an Exemplary Sportsmanship Award from Iowa High School Athletics Association in 2000.
Over the years, Dian spent her free time reading, crafting, baking, and researching family genealogy. Friends and family would agree that Dian was a top-notch party host with natural interior design skills. If you needed and idea or an opinion, Dian was your gal.
As the grandkids and grand-dogs began to overwhelm the family home, Dian and Ron combined their project skills to complete a major home addition. That turned out so well that they continued to remodel homes, including a recent one that overlooks Storm Lake and provided spectacular sunsets for Dian in her final days.
Dian and Ron treasured time with family and friends. They were fortunate to take many special trips with their “Friends Group”. Whether traveling with family or friends, Dian’s organization and planning ensured smooth travels and a lifetime of memories.
Dian’s selfless attitude and pride in her family was what drove her to give so much to so many. She always went the extra mile with everything she did. She felt that her life was blessed with the gifts of family, faith, work, gratitude, freedom, friends, and love.
Dian died Thursday, March 3, 2022 at their lake home in Storm Lake, IA.
