Tom Cowell, 62, of Holstein, formerly of Storm Lake, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA. Private family inurnment will take place.

Thomas Stuart Cowell was born January, 25, 1964 the son of George W. and B. Joanne (Welsh-Clawson) Cowell at Postville, Iowa. In December of 1965 they left the family farm and moved to Cedar Rapids, IA. He attended school at Cedar Rapids Prairie, graduating from Prairie High School in 1982. Growing up Tom loved to play baseball and hit a lot of homeruns. He also loved to roller skate, and taught many other kids as well as a large number of adults how to skate. He loved to play card games and board games, was incredibly lucky, and was always ready to go fishing. On October 6, 1984 Tom married Shelley Kaye Razor in Cedar Rapids. They divorced in 1987. In 1988 he moved to the Storm Lake area. He worked a number of maintenance and construction jobs over the years. On July 31, 1989 Tom married Laura Lee Simons in Newell, IA. They had three children; Leah, and twins Thomas and Simon. They were divorced in 2001. Tom then married Teresa Renee Kading. They had two children; Anna and Lakota, and divorced in 2005.

One of Tom’s greatest moments was receiving a cochlear implant and finally being able to hear.

Preceding Tom in death were his parents and an infant son, sister and brother in law Pat and Roger Redig. Two uncles: Duane Cowell, Bruce Cowell and one aunt and uncle Marcella and Kenneth Wendel.

Survivors include his children; Leah Beth and her husband Matt Schipper and her children Chael, Chandler, and Camryn Newman, and their sons Colton and Christian Schipper, Thomas and his wife Jazmine Cowell of Newell and his son Kellan Cowell, and their daughters Paislee, Kinslee, and Wrenlee Cowell, Simon Cowell of Newell, Anna Cowell and daughters Raylynn and Baylee of Cherokee, and Lakota Cowell. Also surviving are, one niece, Rachel and her husband Simon Williams and their daughters Erica and Riley of Estherville, one nephew, Roman and his wife Shelby Redig and their children, Remi & Ryan of Aurelia, one aunt, Carol Schroeder of La Crosse, WI, and several cousins.
