Boyd was raised on the family farm north of Aurelia, and attended school in Aurelia. On February 14, 1954, Boyd was united in marriage to Peggy Jo Waddell in Aurelia. This union was blessed with three daughters: Deb, Vicki and Lesa. In Boyd’s early working career he worked a variety of jobs including working at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute and as a truck driver before settling down as a farmer. Boyd farmed in the Martin’s Access area until retiring into Aurelia in 2000. Boyd had a variety of hobbies but especially enjoyed riding motorcycles and was the founder of the (Over the Hill Gang), which hosted AMA sanctioned motorcycle races on his farm. He was also a staunch supporter of anything Chevy. Boyd enjoyed working with his cars always keeping them well polished and looking good. If you wanted to get into a good discussion with Boyd you could mention buying another brand of car, and he always got a chuckle out of a good Ford vs Chevy joke.
