Thomas ”Tom” Bleil of Hornick, IA, formerly of Mapleton and Aurelia passed away peacefully Friday, September 29, 2023 at MercyOne Hospital in Sioux City, IA. Cremation has taken place and graveside inurnment services will take place on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Diamond Township Cemetery, 7 miles South of Aurelia on V Ave. on Highway M21. Rev. Bruce Rapp will officiate. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Martin “Tom” Bleil was born June 5, 1946 in Cherokee, IA, to Clarence and Anne (Martin) Bleil of Aurelia. Tom attend school in Aurelia, graduating from the Aurelia High School in1964. Tom loved football. He spoke of the Big game, his beloved teammates and Coach Hodam often in his final days. FFA was also a very important part of Tom’s high school years. He served as vice-president and secretary.
In 1970 after leaving the farm Tom discovered what became his lifelong passion, law enforcement. Tom served in Cherokee, Mapleton, and was a Monona County deputy sheriff. Tom was one of the first D.A.R.E. officers in the state of Iowa. In his retirement Tom worked for Allied Security, first at the Southern Hills Mall and then at the Tyson Hides Gate. He loved to attend Morningside football, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved his grandchildren.
In the 2008 Tom married Jacquelyn Anderson at the park in Aurelia.
Preceding Tom in death were his parents, brother Dick Bleil, nephew Brian Bleil, parents in law Lawrence and Donna Anderson, brother-in-law Bill Estes, and sister-in-law Dian Anderson.
Left to celebrate his life is his wife Jacquelyn, his five children; Mark and Shelly Bleil of Virginia Beach, VA, Libby and Rick Beckman of Sloan, IA, Lacey Bleil of Federal Way, WA, Meg Bleil of Remsen, and Kayla and Weston Till of Hornick, eleven grandchildren; Daniel, Nick, Rylan, Tucker, Grace, Marcus, Mallory, Asher, Aiden, Elexis and Cambree. Also surviving are three step-children, Jeromy and Dawn Lageschulte of St. Joseph, MO, Jessica Lageschulte of Aurelia, and Andy Lageschulte of Aurelia, seven step-grandchildren; Fred, Ben, Jorja, Parker, Kain, Carson, and Kendall, three sisters-in-law; Pat Estes, Katherine and Dick Mazoyer, and Angie and Harry Endrulat, two brothers-in-law; Ron Anderson and Randy and Deb Anderson, and nieces and nephews, and extended family Uulkan and Austin Moore of Norfolk, NE, and Ainura and Chris Pavlik.
