Graveside services for Thomas “Tom” Samsel, 82, of Lakeside, will be held at 11:00 on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Storm Lake Cemetery. There will be visitation on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Tom was born in Storm Lake, Iowa on September 10, 1939, the only child of Burdette and Elizabeth “Betty” (Thomas) Samsel. Tom attended Storm Lake Schools graduating in 1958.  He then attended Buena Vista College, graduating with a degree in education.  Tom was united in marriage to Joanne Charlotte Fray, who was adopted by Richard and Cleta Thomas of Storm Lake, on June 23, 1963.  Tom taught school for several years in Sac City, then Tom and Joanne opened their own Photo Studio which the couple worked for a few years. He owned and operated the family business, Thomas-Samsel Cabins, on East Lakeshore Drive in Storm Lake.  He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake.  He enjoyed woodworking, electronics, and had a passion for restoring classic autos.  Tom and Joanne were always ready to take anyone for medical treatments to any hospital or clinic, Mayo being the hospital of choice.

Tom died on Friday, April 1, 2022 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, IA.

Preceding Tom in death were his parents, his wife Joanne on March 26, 2015, his aunt and uncle, Mary & Wendell Wheeler, and his uncle and aunt, Richard “Dick” & Cleta Thomas.

Tom is survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
