Memorial services for Loren E. “Chick” Mongan, 76, of Aurelia, will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Tim Jones officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the church.

Loren Eugene Mongan was born March 2, 1945 in Cherokee, IA, the son of Lawrence Gilbert and Jeanette Marie (McClain) Mongan. He attended school in Aurelia and graduated from the Aurelia Consolidated High School in 1963. On December 12, 1965 he was united in marriage to Barbara Johnson, they later divorced. Chick worked for Witt Sales as a food service salesman, and later as the same for Braunger Foods. On January 3, 1998 he married Debra Rae (Bogh) Bruns in Peterson, IA. Later he worked for AmeriGas as a route driver, Schoon Construction in Cherokee burying fiber optics, HyVee in Storm Lake stocking shelves, and as a bus driver for Alta-Aurelia.

Chick was a member of the First Congregational Church in Aurelia. He enjoyed catfishing on the Little Sioux, camping, gardening, taking care of the family dogs, he was a military history buff, and loved bowling and the Iowa State Cyclones!

Chick died Saturday, December 11, 2021, at UnityPoint Hospital in Storm Lake.

Preceding Chick in death were his parents, one brother, Rodney Glen Mongan, and one nephew, Andrew Glen Namanny.

Survivors include his wife Deb Mongan of Aurelia, seven children; Melinda and her husband Kenneth Thompson of Sugarland, TX, Lance Mongan of Odebolt, Kellie and her husband Michael Lunning of Vermillion, SD, Melissa Still of LeMars, Brian Bruns and Amanda Boone of LeMars, Kayla Bruns of Cherokee, and Kyle Bruns of Spencer, ten grandchildren; Emma and husband Levi Rehrig of Sioux Falls, Hanna Lunning of Des Moines, James Thompson of Jacksonville, FL, Matthew, Abram, Riley, and William Bruns of LeMars, Clayton and Kasey Domsch of LeMars, and Callum Bruns of Cherokee. Also surviving are his sister, Sheryl and her husband Jerry Namanny of Cherokee, his mother-in-law, Lynne Bogh of LeMars, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Stephanie and her husband Ed Knolmayer of River Falls, WI, Kim Schroeder of Sioux City, Chris and his wife Melanie Bogh of LeMars, Barb and her husband Paul Bergin of LeMars, Pat and her husband Henry Shear of Elgin, SC, and Charles and his wife Lisa Bogh of Coralville, IA, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
