ORVILLE E. WINTERHOF

Funeral services for Orville E. Winterhof, 95, of Cherokee, formerly of Aurelia, will be Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 1:30 P.M., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present, at the church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Orville Edmund Winterhof was born on July 3, 1921 in Diamond Township south of Alta, IA, the son of William and Hilda (Litchenberg) Winterhof. He was baptized on July 17, 1921 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Hanover where he later attended school and was confirmed on March 31, 1935.  He served in the US Navy during World War II. On June 30, 1946 Orville married Iona Wilhelmina Stratmann at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Latimer, IA.  Orville farmed near Aurelia until his retirement into town in 1974. He also worked at Beals Motor Rewind in Cherokee from 1970 to 1986.  He later drove for Sleezer Select Stock of Aurelia.  Orville was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia.  He was a member of the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia, and the Aurelia Golf Club. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sporting events and activities.  His family was his greatest joy who he dearly loved.

Orville died Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, IA.

Preceding Orville in death were his parents, his wife Iona on April 30, 2016, one son, Dean Winterhof on April 26, 2005, three brothers; Wilmer and his wife Gloria, Harry and his wife Dorothy,  and Marvin and his wife Myrna, one sister, Lorna Franzmier and husband Edwin, sister-in-law and her husband Norma and Darrel Borcherding.

Survivors include two sons; Craig and his wife Patti Winterhof of Denver, CO, and Brian and his wife Lorri Winterhof of Cherokee, and four daughters; Elaine Meyer of Cherokee, Janet and her husband Dan Whitney of Aurelia, Joyce and her husband Ken Bahrke of Panora, IA, and Marcia and her husband Gary Klett of Everly, IA. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, one brother and his wife, Vernon and Suzanne Winterhof of Aurelia, one sister-in-law, Elna and husband Kenneth Keehn of Hampton, IA, one brother-in-law, Arnold and wife Lois Stratmann of Hampton, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
