Memorial services for Jim J. Ebel, 74 of Aurelia, will be Saturday, October 1, 2016, at 2:00 P. M. at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Tom Petersen officiating and Nelva Petersen CLS. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Jimmy Jay Ebel was born at Primghar, Iowa, the son of Milton and Eunice (Powers) Ebel on December 18, 1941. He graduated from the Primghar High School in 1960.

On October 14, 1960 Jim married Bonnie VanderPol. They farmed in the Mt. Olive area south of Aurelia for 19 years. Jim then managed Maple Valley Wood Shavings and drove semi for Chesterman Co. until he retired in 2012.

Jim was a member of the Aurelia First United Methodist Church, served for 15 years on the Aurelia School Board, and also served for 15 years on the Area 12 AEA.

Jim enjoyed gardening and lawn care and tinkering around, and loved watching his grandchildren’s sports events.

Jim died Monday, September 26, 2016 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, his brother Lee and his wife Maxine Ebel, and brother-in-law Butch Bergendahl.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Aurelia, two sons and their wives; Jeff and Tami Ebel of Storm Lake, and Kirk and Lori Ebel of Fort Dodge, four grandchildren; Mitchell Ebel of Storm Lake, Cole Ebel of Sioux Center, Ryan Ebel of Fort Dodge, and Katie and her husband Corey Carlton of Creston, IA, and a great-granddaughter on the way. Also surviving are his brother Robert and wife Shirley Ebel of Sierra Vista, AZ, his sister, Linda Bergendahl of Spencer, and his brother Ben and wife Connie Ebel of Primghar, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
