Memorial services for John “Dale” Peterson, 87, of Aurelia, will be Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at 10:30 A.M., at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Thomas Petersen and Nelva Petersen CLS officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
John Dale Peterson was born to Grover and Josie (Dolquist) Peterson at Aurelia on August 11, 1929. At the age of eleven he went to live with Raymond and Freda Nelson, also of Aurelia. He graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1947. Dale worked on farms after graduation. He entered the Army in July of 1950, and was discharged in 1953. On April 4, 1954 he married Charlene Koch. They lived and farmed south of Aurelia until 1986 when they moved into Aurelia. Dale then continued to help his son on the family farm for another ten years. Later he worked for Redig Funeral Home for several years.
Over the years he loved riding the motorcycle, golfing, and traveling with friends. He enjoyed fishing and just being with people.
Dale was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, American Legion, and was in Kiwanis for a few years.
Dale died Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.
Preceding Dale in death were his two sets of parents, one sister, Jewel and her husband Joe Waters, one granddaughter, Erin Brown, one sister-in-law Ardyce and her husband Delmar Wolterman.
Survivors include his wife Charlene of Aurelia, one son, Kurt and his wife Cheryl Peterson of Aurelia, one daughter, Holly and her husband Charles Brown of Burnsville, MN, four grandchildren; Justin Peterson of Aurelia, Kolin and wife Emily Peterson of Urbandale, IA, Lindsey Brown and friend Kyle Clark of Apple Valley, MN, and Chasson Brown of Burnsville, MN, two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Jackson, one brother-in-law, Val Dean and wife Peg Koch of Cherokee, nieces and nephews, and friends.
