Funeral services for Mildred G. “Millie” Waddell, 96, of Storm Lake, formerly of Alta, will be 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta, with Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Alta. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Ladies VFW Auxiliary #6172 of Alta, or the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Mildred Genevieve Speulda was born on November 4th, 1918 at Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Trautt) Speulda. She received her education in Wayne, NE, graduating in 1935. On November 18, 1955 Millie married Lyle Lee Waddell in Luverne, MN. Millie worked at Cobblestone, DeKalb, Depot Lounge, and babysat for families in Alta. She retired in 1990. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies VFW Auxiliary #6172 of Alta, and a past president of the AmVets Auxiliary, and she enjoyed golf, bowling, canning, and cooking.

Millie died Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the North Lake Manor in Storm Lake, where she had been a resident since April 6, 2010.

Preceding Millie in death were her parents, first husband Joe Bateman, second husband Lyle Waddell on January 21, 2005, one brother, Bob Speulda, one sister, June Schoby, one son-in-law, Rex Kent, one great-grandson, Aaron Michael Waddell, and two brothers-in-law; Robert Bursick and Fred Schoby.

Survivors include her four children; Susan Freese of Des Moines, Genevieve Kent of Mesa, AZ, Richard and his wife Kathy Bateman of Paonia, CO, and Carl and his wife Bobbie Waddell of Spencer. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Lloyd and his wife Ellie Speulda of Candler, NC, one sister, Norma Bursick of Sioux City, special family member, Dee Waddell Meyer, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
