Memorial services for Clifford E. Carlson, 88, of Aurelia, will be Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 10:30 A.M., at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Cherokee, with Military Honors by the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. There will be no visitation. A memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Clifford Eugene Carlson was born on August 27, 1925 at Beaver Creek, MN, the son of Otto and Alma (Poppenhagen) Carlson. He graduated from the Meriden High School in 1943. Cliff served in the Navy from July 17, 1943 until his honorable discharge on March 10, 1946. On May 2, 1948 Cliff married Doris Joy at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Cherokee. They made their home in several towns in Cherokee County, at Early, and moved to Aurelia in 1973. Over the years Cliff worked for Steele’s Ranch, Baumann Farms, Simonsen’s Manufacturing, and as Territory Representative for Simonsen Fertilizer until his retirement in 1990. Cliff was a member of Men of Faith, Lutheran’s for Life, and the VFW. He enjoyed fixing bikes and clocks, collecting radios, watching his grandkids participate in sports, and WW II Naval history.
Cliff died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Cliff in death were his parents, one son, Ricky Carlson, his wife Doris on January 27, 2014, one sister, Florine Kass, and two brothers; Frank Carlson and Leland Carlson.
Survivors include three sons; Loren and his wife Cheryl Carlson of Storm Lake, Terry and his wife Kathy Carlson of Washington, IL, Randy and his wife Lynn Carlson of Waukee, IA, and one daughter, Dee and her husband Curt Otto of Holstein. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Brandt and wife Nicky Carlson, Linsay and husband Simeon Vladimirov, Gabriel and wife Kendra Carlson, Jordan and wife Courtney Carlson, Joshua and wife Heather Carlson, Brandon and wife Deidre Carlson, Matthew and wife Allie Otto, and Kelly and wife Abbie Otto, nine great-grandchildren; Jaxson and Owen Otto, Dillon, Adelaide, Myra, and Hayden Carlson, Kaylee and Elyse Carlson, and Ary Carlson, two brothers; Stan Carlson of La Pine, OR, and Les Carlson of Oliver, British Columbia, Canada, three sisters; Ruth Oliver of Sioux City, IA, Gladys Meyer of Tempe, AZ, and Charlene Letsche of Marcus, IA, and other relatives and friends.
