Memorial services for Verlyn G. Dyslin, 86, of Aurelia, will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia, at a later date. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00, with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. Military honors will be by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post of Aurelia and the L. A. Wescott VFW Post of
Cherokee. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
Verlyn Galen Dyslin was born December 8, 1927 at Aurelia, IA, the son of Gahlen Albert and Helen (Gerjets) Dyslin. He attended Brooke School, country school, and then the Aurelia High School, graduating in 1946. Verlyn served in the US Army. On March 12, 1950 Verlyn married Elaine Fae Pedersen at the Presbyterian Church in Alta. He worked for different farmers during his school years, and after being discharged from the Army he farmed north of Alta and worked for Kingan Packing Plant, then later for Caswell Mfg., Lundell Mfg., and for Cherokee County as a maintainer driver. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Alta, and the Alta Square Dance Club. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, ballroom and square dancing, and loved playing cards with various card clubs of which he was a member.
Verlyn died Monday January 13, 2014 at the Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Verlyn in death were his parents, an infant son, two sisters, one in infancy, and Rozella and her husband George Bruns, Jr., one daughter-in-law, Julie Dyslin, and two brothers-in-law, Richard Martin and Duane Haley.
Survivors include his wife Elaine of Aurelia, three children; Cheryl and her husband Rod Hasenwinkel of Aurelia, Mark and his wife Nancy Dyslin of Stillwater, MN, and LeAnn and her husband Roy Wadsley of Nemaha, IA. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Allison and husband Craig Wisniewski of Osceola, IA, Molli and husband Nate Overturf of Aurelia, Kayla and husband Mike Martens of Albert City, Kaine Wadsley of Nemaha, Kelsey and husband Brice Pollock of Santa Clara, CA, two great-grandchildren; Hannah and Cael Wisniewski, three step-great-grandchildren; Abigail, Piper, and Peyton Overturf, two sisters; Bonnie Martin and Joan Haley both of Sac City, IA, one brother-in-law; Richard and his wife Julie Pedersen of Alta, many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
