Funeral services for Orlyn Webb, 71, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 13, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Tom Petersen officiating. Military Honors by the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia and the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 7:30, at the First United Methodist Church. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements. A memorial fund has been established.
Orlyn Lee Webb was born July 5, 1942 at Sac City, Iowa, the son of Forrest and Mabel (Ellwanger) Webb. He attended school and graduated from the Galva High School in 1960. He entered the Navy as a mines man and served until 1964. After his honorable discharge he attended Buena Vista College for four years, graduating with a degree in business. Orlyn worked for Lehigh Cement for seven years. He then owned and operated Francis Tap in Aurelia for 30 years and farmed the century old family farm, retiring in 2002. Orly loved to travel and was proud that he had been to all 50 states, plus trips to Europe, the Scandinavian Countries, Mexico, and Jamaica. He looked forward to his winters in Florida which he enjoyed for eleven years.
On December 14, 1991, Orlyn married Nancy Galvin at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia. He was a member of the Aurelia American Legion, the Aurelia Golf Course, and the Silver Creek United Methodist Church in Galva. He loved fishing, golf, and playing cards and cribbage with family and friends. Orly was an avid sports fan, especially cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Orly died Saturday, December 7, 2013, at his home in Aurelia surrounded by family and friends after a five year battle with cancer.
Preceding Orlyn in death were his parents, one brother, Duane Webb, and one sister-in-law, Cheryl Webb.
Survivors include his wife Nancy Webb of Aurelia, one son, Cameron Webb of St Louis, MO, two brothers; Donald and his wife Frances Webb of New Orleans, LA, and Forrest and his friend Cheryl Kershaw of Harvest, AL, one sister, Sandra and her husband Walter Shepherd of Hot Springs, AR, one sister-in-law, Gail and her husband Martin Rummell of Wabeno, WI, mother-in-law Imagene Galvin of Aurelia, two brothers-in-law; Randy and his wife Deb Galvin of Early, IA, and Rodney Galvin and his friend JoAnne Fystrom of St. Louis Park, MN, two aunts; June Bowers of Storm Lake and Joyce Patten of Perry, several nieces and nephews, cousins, special friends Kevin and Amanda Bengtson and family, and many friends.
