HETTY R. ENGDAHL

Funeral services for Hetty R. Engdahl, 88, of Aurelia, will be held at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at 10:30 a.m., with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00, on Tuesday at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia.

Hetty died Thursday April 4, 2013 at her home in Aurelia.

Hetty Ruth Webster was born in Charleston, Arkansas, on August 1, 1924, the daughter of Albert and Tamzie (Nolan) Webster.  She graduated from the Ft. Smith High School in Ft. Smith, AR, in 1942. Hetty was united in marriage to Edwin William Engdahl on April 18, 1943, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ft. Smith. She worked for Rightway Cleaners, and during WWII she worked in a gas mask factory. After moving to Aurelia she worked as a switchboard operator for People’s Telephone Co., as a bookkeeper for Engdahl Repair, at Kruse Grocery in Aurelia, H. L. Hunt Canning Factory in Storm Lake, and for Hy-Vee in Cherokee until she retired at 62. Hetty enjoyed flower and herb gardening, canning, bird watching, sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, reading, fishing, and collecting postcards and stamps. She loved nature and animals. Hetty was a member of the First Congregational Church in Aurelia.

Preceding Hetty in death were her parents, her husband Edwin on September 9, 2004, two sons, Paul William and David Conrad, three sisters, and four brothers.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Leifer and her husband Jim Sak of Aurelia, and Nancy and her husband Tom Jarratt of Sioux City, IA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Jamie Samsel-Rodriguez and her husband Nick, Aaron and his wife Jun Samsel, and Matthew Samsel and special friend Heather Tyler, great-grandson Samuel Rodriguez and a great-granddaughter to arrive in June, two brothers-in-law, Ken and his wife Lois Jean Engdahl and Albert Engdahl all of Aurelia, one sister-in-law, Phyllis Lindgren of Meriden, special niece Jeanne and her husband Bobby Fletcher and family, Engdahl nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, and her cats, Willie, Emmy, Dolly and Tipper.
