Funeral services for Frieda Mohn, 93, of Aurelia, formerly of Cherokee, will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 7, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the family being present. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Frieda Christine Marie Hinkeldey was born on October 24, 1919 at Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Sophia (Honsbruch) Hinkeldey. She attended school at St. John’s at Hanover. As a young adult she worked for several households in the Hanover and Storm Lake areas. On December 15, 1938 Frieda married Eitel Hugo Mohn at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Hanover. They farmed in Cherokee County both south and north of Aurelia until moving into Aurelia in August of 1971, at which time Frieda was employed by Sunset Knoll for twelve years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels in Aurelia for several years. Frieda and Eitel moved to The Beck in Cherokee in March of 2001. Then she moved back “Home” to Aurelia and Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center for the last two weeks of her life. Frieda was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, having been active in the Ladies Aid, and as a Sunday school and VBS teacher. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family, especially keeping up with the activities of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frieda died Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Frieda in death were her parents, her husband Eitel on July 15, 2005, a sister, Anna Nielsen, and five brothers, John in infancy, Albert, Herman, Edward, and Martin Hinkeldey.
Survivors include their three children; Lois and her husband Carroll Pingel of St. Charles, MO, Myrna and her husband Jon Hamann of Las Vegas, NV, and Jim and his wife Connie Mohn of Cherokee, six grandchildren; Doug and his wife Dana Pingel of New Palestine, IN, Denise and her husband Michael Scoffic of Augusta, MO, Dora and her husband Scott Hyslop of Frankenmuth, MI, Heidi Hamann and her husband John Ruiz of Flower Mound, TX, Kendi Mohn and her husband Erik Gronberg of Ft. Worth, TX, and Alicia Mohn and her fiancée Eric Boudreau of Milwaukee, WI. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren; Sarah and Matt Pingel, Alexandra Capestany, Nicholas Hyslop, Carson and Liliana Ruiz, and Annika and Greta Gronberg, one brother-in-law Arnold Mohn of Alta, IA, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
