Funeral services for Frances Hasenwinkel, 89, of Aurelia, will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 29, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the family being present. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Frances Evelyn Hesse was born on May 21, 1924 north of Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Elsa (Buddenhagen) Hesse. She graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1943. Frances taught school for three years in Afton Township. On January 10, 1947 Frances married Merlin Fredrick Hasenwinkel at the Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Aurelia. Frances worked in the lunch room at the school for 21 years, retiring in 1989. Frances was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, having been active in various groups. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sunset Knoll Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family, crafts, cooking and sewing.
Frances died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Frances in death were her parents, her husband Merlin on May 14, 2006, one grandson; Cody Hasenwinkel, one grandson-in-law; Sean Brazas, and one brother, Marvin Hesse.
Survivors include her five children; Rod and his wife Cheri Hasenwinkel of Aurelia, Elaine and her husband Greg Randolph of Eagan, MN, Larry and his wife Sue Hasenwinkel of Hurricane, UT, Bonnie James of Alta, and Daryl and his wife Teresa Hasenwinkel of Mesa, AZ. Also surviving are ten grandchildren; Allison and husband Craig Wisniewski of Osceola, IA, Molli and husband Nate Overturf of Aurelia, Scott and wife Roshelle Hasenwinkel of North Charleston, SC, Nick Hasenwinkel of Salt Lake City, UT, Zack Hasenwinkel of Hurricane, UT, Corinne and husband Todd Peters of Cherokee, Jeremiah and wife Amanda James of Alta, Bobbi James of Larrabee, Luke and wife Christie Hasenwinkel of Chandler, AZ, and Allie Brazas of Mesa, AZ, 14 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law; Betty Hesse of Sioux City, Emily Otte of Primghar, and Phyllis Golnitz of New London, MN, several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
