Funeral services for Lloyd Buddenhagen, 66, of Aurelia, will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia with the family being present from 5:00 to 8:00. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Richard Buddenhagen was born in Cherokee, IA, on October 13, 1946 the son of John and Florence (Mahler) Buddenhagen. Lloyd was raised on the family farm northeast of Aurelia, and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1965. Lloyd attended Westmar College for one year before entering the US Army on January 4, 1967 serving until October 6, 1968. He was united in marriage to Beverly Renee Martinsen on October 26, 1974 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee. To this union three children were born: Eric, Jessica and Alicia. Lloyd farmed the family farm until moving into Aurelia in 2004. He also worked at Wilsons in Cherokee from 1968 to 1974 and from 1985 to 2001. Lloyd was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia, and the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. Lloyd enjoyed hunting and trapping, and raised silver fox for several years. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Lloyd became a resident of Sunset Knoll Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Aurelia in April of this year.
Lloyd died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Preceding Lloyd in death were his parents, two brothers; Clayton in infancy, Russell and his wife Lois, and two brothers-in-law; Kenny Martinsen and Don Martinsen.
Survivors include: his wife Renee of Aurelia; one son, Eric (Booder) and his wife Carrie Buddenhagen of Aurelia; two daughters, Jessica Buddenhagen of Sioux City, and Alicia and her husband Justin Thompson of Cherokee; and two grandchildren, Blake Thompson and Jamie Buddenhagen. Also surviving are: one sister, Karen and her husband Charles Hofmann of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Lyle and his wife Marlys Buddenhagen of Tracy, MN; father and mother-in-law, Max and Mary Lou Martinsen of Cherokee; two sisters-in-law, Barb LeValley of Garland, TX; and Connie and her husband Terry Cutler of Pflugerville, TX; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
