Funeral services for Vera J. Rapp, 94, of Aurelia, will be Thursday, September 13, 2018, at 10:30 A.M., at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Aurelia, IA. Visitation will be from 3:00 P. M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family being present from 5:00 till 7:00, at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Vera June Willemssen was born November 18, 1923, the daughter of Ulfert C. and Hattie M. (Schuck) Willemssen at Sibley, IA.  She attended school at High View and graduated from Alta High School in 1942. Vera was united in marriage to Ladell E. Rapp on February 7, 1945, at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia. Vera worked for Fitzgerald Insurance for two years, Fraser Elevator for two years, for Farmers National Bank and then Heritage Bank in Aurelia for thirty years, and for Wal-Mart for 2 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, where she served on the Women’s Fellowship for over 70 years. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters for many years. Vera enjoyed spending time with family, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren  and she enjoyed watching them play sports and other activities.  She loved picnics, vacations, shopping, and playing games.

Vera died Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Preceding Vera in death were her parents, her husband Ladell on September 5, 1986, one brother, Harold Willemssen, and one brother-in-law, Tom Frederiksen.

Survivors include her two sons; Rev. Bruce and his wife Polly (Gano) Rapp of Aurelia and Brian and his wife Diana (Rider) Rapp of Peoria, AZ. Also surviving are three grandchildren; Jared and his wife Jill Rapp of Moville, Adam and his wife Renae Rapp of Cherokee, and Jada and her husband Tim Jones of Cherokee, seven great-grandchildren; Austin Rapp, Madison Rapp, Alexus Jones, Noah Rapp, Shea Rapp, Lennix Jones and Maya Rapp, one sister, Fern Frederiksen of Storm Lake, one brother-in-law, Frank and his wife Marian Rapp, two sisters-in-law, Pat Peterson, and Carmel Shaw, and other relatives and friends.
