Funeral services for Marian L. Kinney, 85, of Newell, will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the First Congregational Church in Newell with Pastor Greg Baskerville officiating. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery, Newell, IA. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 until 7:00, at the Congregational Church in Newell, with the family present. A memorial fund has been established at PO Box 412, George, IA 51237.  The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Marian Lucille Pedersen was born on January 25, 1932, the daughter of Christen Jensen and Pearl Sena (Davenport) Pedersen in Libertyville, IL. Her family moved to Newell when Marian was two years old. She wrapped butter at the Newell Creamery and worked as a waitress at the Newell Westside Café while in high school.  After graduation in 1950 Marian worked for Northwestern Bell in Storm Lake as a telephone operator.  On December 11, 1951 she married William Donald Ellrich at the Polk County Courthouse.  To this union three sons were born, Tom, Steve and David.  Marian worked for several years as the head cook at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell.  After her divorce from William, Marian moved to Ames where she became the House Mother and cook for the Theta XI Fraternity for one year.  She returned to Newell to marry Kenneth W. Kinney on June 14, 1978 at the Congregational Church in Newell. The couple lived on Ken’s century farm.  Marian enjoyed playing cards, doing needlepoint, and baking.  She loved to entertain and host coffee for her friends. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Newell.

Marian died Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell where she had been a resident since November 11, of 2014.

Preceding Marian in death were her parents, her husband Kenneth Kinney on June 18, 2012, one brother, Paul J. Pedersen, one sister in law, Vie Pedersen.

Survivors include her three sons: Tom and his wife Sharon Ellrich of Ames, IA, Steven Ellrich of Des Moines, IA, and David and his wife Marlene Ellrich of George, IA. Two step-daughters: Sandra and her husband Kent Renegar of Ankeny, IA and Candace Chesney of Des Moines, IA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren, two great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. One sister, Betty and husband Melvin Redig of Storm Lake, one brother James Pedersen of Sierra Vista, AZ, sister in law, Donna Pedersen of Rock Valley, IA, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
