Graveside services for Marian H. Coombs, 91, of Aurelia, will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia, with Pastor Bruce Rapp of the First Congregational Church in Aurelia officiating. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Marian Hope Patten was born on July 4, 1925, the daughter of William C. and Charlotte (Lanham) Patten in Windom, MN. After graduation from the Aurelia High School in 1942 Marian attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake where she obtained her teaching certificate in 1944. She taught at Harris, IA, Fruitland, ID, Primghar, IA, and Ida Grove, IA. She worked as a Girl Scout counselor at Locust Grove Camp in Tulsa, OK. On July 10, 1948 she married Oren William Coombs in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Marian was a member of Country Ramblers 4H, the American Shetland Pony Club, and the American Quarter Horse Association. She was also member of the First Congregational Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, Circle Chairwoman and Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President of Fellowship, Memorial Chairman, and as Deaconess.

Marian died Sunday, June 25, 2017 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia where she had been a resident since January 27, 2017.

Preceding Marian in death were her parents, her husband Oren Coombs on November 26, 1996, one son, Tim Coombs, one sister, Mildred Peterson, three brothers; Billy, Lloyd, and Wilbur Patten, two step-sons; Robert and Dan Coombs, and three step-daughters; Jane Coombs, Lois Gross, and Gloria Lansford.

Survivors include her three sons: Tony and his wife Rhonda Coombs of Aurelia, Terry and his wife Cathy Coombs of Johnston, IA, and Tracy and his wife Deb Coombs of Alma, WI. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one brother, Robert Patten of Ankeny, IA, one sister-in-law, Sally Patten of Carroll, IA, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
