Funeral services for John M. Storbeck, 97, of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 30th, 2016 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

John Makepeace Storbeck was born June 23rd, 1919, the son of Frank & Katherine (Dueselder) Storbeck at St. James, MN. He graduated from St. James High School and entered the US Army where he was a combat engineer for five years being stationed in Germany, France and the Philippines. While stationed in the U.S. he built bridges in Canada and Alaska. During his time in service John met and married Lillian W. Travis on November 15, 1944 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After being honorably discharged from the Army he attended Drake University where he studied to became a pharmacist.   John served his apprenticeship in Greenawalt Pharmacy in Des Moines in 1949.  The family moved to Dubuque for one year before coming to Aurelia where he joined Dutch Honsbruch in his pharmacy, later becoming partner and adding a store in Cherokee.  After the Cherokee Pharmacy was sold, John purchased the remaining shares from Dutch Honsbruch in the Aurelia Pharmacy.  When John turned 66 he sold his pharmacy in Aurelia to George Appleseth from Storm Lake.  John enjoyed staying busy and filled in at several area pharmacies for many years.  He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was an avid member of the Men of Faith, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 in Aurelia, Kiwanis Club, and was a former member of the Aurelia Commercial Club.  He also enjoyed golfing and fishing.

On June 20, 1999 John was united in marriage to Marilyn (Peck) George at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee.  The couple enjoyed the winter months in Alamo, Texas for 15 years.

John passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 24th, 2016 at the Sunset Knoll Nursing & Rehab Center in Aurelia.

Preceding John in death were his parents, his first wife Lillian on October 29, 1997, six brothers and one sister.

Survivors include: his wife Marilyn Storbeck of Aurelia, two sons and their wives; Jerry and his wife Luanne Storbeck of Encinitas, CA, and John D. and his wife Chris Kelly-Storbeck of Redmond, WA, three grandsons; Chad Storbeck, John C. and his wife Lauren Storbeck, and James Storbeck, and one great-grandson; Jonathan Storbeck. Also surviving are three step- daughters: Debra George of Kearney, MO, Mary Lynn and her husband Craig DeDecker of Norwalk, IA, and Terri Ann George of Chicago, IL, one step-son; Mathias George of Aurelia, three step-grand-children; Brian DeDecker, Jarrod Rosentreter and his wife Melanie  and Jenna and her husband Christian Huntley, 6 step- great-grand-children Vera Huntley, Colin Barnes, Kayleen Barnes, McKenna Barnes, Berkley Rosentreter and Keaton Rosentreter two sister-in-law: Nellie Storbeck of Alexandria, MN, LaVon Roberts and husband Bob of Cherokee, and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
