Memorial services for Kenneth D. Peterson, 82, of Aurelia, will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Larry Lemke officiating. Inurnment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. There will be no visitation. The Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia is in charge of arrangements.

Kenneth Duane Peterson was born on January 22, 1931 at Minneapolis, MN, the son of Robert and Serene (Anderson) Peterson.  He attended school in Minneapolis. Kenneth entered the US Army on February 7, 1951 and was honorably discharged on September 12, 1951.

Kenneth married Marjorie Huseman on December 9, 1951 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.  To this union five children were born; Robert, Kathy, Bruce, Jayne, and Sharon. Kenneth worked for Engdahl Repair in Aurelia as a mechanic, at MHI in Cherokee, and then farmed in Sac, Cherokee, and Buena Vista Counties. He worked for a short time for Benberg House Moving Company in Storm Lake, drove truck cross-country for eight years, and then worked for fifteen years at the Farmers Coop in Aurelia, retiring in 1993.  Ken was proud that when he farmed he could repair all of his own equipment and enjoyed mechanical work and woodworking, he also enjoyed playing cards. Kenneth married Janice (Movick) Williams on October 24, 1987 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia.   Kenneth was a past Master of the Masonic Lodge AF & AM and Order of the Eastern Star in Alta, Iowa, and was a member of the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post in Aurelia.

Kenneth died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Sunset Knoll Care and Rehab Center in Aurelia where he was a resident for three years.

Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, one son, Robert F. Peterson, one grandson, Ryan Peterson, one step-granddaughter, Brooke Anderson, one sister, Lorraine and her husband Art Nordahl, and one sister-in-law, Karen Thrasher.

Survivors include his wife Jan Peterson of Aurelia, his children; Kathy Sliz of Brunson, South Carolina, Bruce and his wife Carla Peterson of Alta, Jayne and her husband Harlan Mortenson of Des Moines, Sharon and her husband Robert Miller of Winder, Georgia, three step-children; Michelle Peters of Fairmont, MN, James Williams of Aurelia, and Andrew and his wife Dawn Williams of Plover, IA.  Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren; Jordan and Jarett Sliz, Morgan, Riley and Cooper Mortenson, Leigh and his wife Angela Peterson, Katina Johnson and Destiny Peterson, step-grand children, Shawn and Christian Williams, Amber and her husband Matthew Sparks, Mary Jackson, and Larry Ash, five great-grand-children; Tyler, Emma, and Aylah Peterson, Mazy Pitts, and Savannah Johnson, one sister-in-law; Marilyn and her husband Gordon Atherton of Aurelia, and other relatives and friends.
