BudnewsFuneral services for Jared “Bud” Zarr, 91, of Aurelia, will be 4:30 P.M. Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the First United Methodist Church in Aurelia, with Pastor Thomas Petersen officiating. Burial will be in the Afton Cemetery, rural Cherokee. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00, with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A memorial fund has been established.

Jared Washington Zarr, Jr. was born October 26, 1923, the son of Jared W. and Hazel (Kissinger) Zarr, Sr. at Vivian, South Dakota. When Bud was ten years old the family moved to Cherokee. He graduated from the Washington High School in Cherokee in 1940. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946. On December 17, 1949, Bud married Harriet Louise Mohror at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, IA. They farmed in the Aurelia area. He was a member of the Aurelia First United Methodist Church, Beef Producers, and the Aurelia Golf Club board. He also did carpenter work for several people.

Bud died Thursday, June 18, 2015, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.

Preceding Bud in death were his parents, his wife Harriet on February 28, 2006, three sisters; Fern Zarr, Ruth and her husband Ed Walter, and Mae and her husband Herb Nelson, three sisters-in-law and their husbands; Marcella and husband Leonard Stout, Vera and husband Roy Stieneke, and Dorothy and husband John Hartwig.

Survivors include two daughters; Sherrie and her husband Tom Mahoney of Salina, KS, and Toni Zarr of Des Moines, one brother, Harold and his wife Marge Zarr of Sioux City, one sister-in-law, Phyllis and her husband Rex Boatman of Waterloo, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
