glorianews-webFuneral services for Gloria Mae Felten, 87, of Aurelia, will be 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the St. John’s Church, rural Peterson, with Pastor Donald Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Gloria Mae Harden was born on May 7th, 1927 at Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of George and Alice (Goettsch) Harden. She graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1944. After graduation she worked for Janzen’s Department Store in Storm Lake.
On February 25, 1947, Gloria married Alfred William Felten at the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church at Brooke. To this union four children were born; Alvern, Byron, Audrey, and Galen. Alfred and Gloria had a dairy farm north of Aurelia. Gloria was a farm wife, raising chickens and packing two cases of eggs every day. Later, she helped raise the baby calves for the dairy operation.
Gloria was a member of the St. John’s Church where she was active in Ladies Aid for many years. She was also a member of C.A.B. Birthday Club and neighborhood 500 card groups. Gloria enjoyed gardening and flowers, babysitting grandkids, visiting family and friends, and writing letters to her four sisters.
Gloria died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Gloria in death were her parents, her husband Alfred on June 5, 2001, one son, Galen Felten, one brother, Virgil Harden, and two sisters; Berniece Koopman and Norma Peterson.
Survivors include her children; Alvern Felten, Byron and his wife Deb Felten, and Audrey and her husband David Gustafson all of Aurelia. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Neil and his wife Nichole Gustafson, Tyler Gustafson, Keith Gustafson, Nathaniel Felten, Nicholas Felten, Amanda Felten, and Neal Felten, two sisters, Thelma McGee of Columbus, NE, and LaVonne Hoops of Holstein, one brother-in-law, Gilbert Peterson of Peoria, AZ, one sister-in-law, Betty Laursen of Aurelia, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
