bettynewsFuneral services for Betty L. Anderson, 87, of Aurelia, will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 25, 2015, at the First Congregational Church in Aurelia with Pastor Bruce Rapp officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00, with the family present, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.
Betty LaVonne Grienke was born on January 11, 1928, the daughter of Herbert and Christina (Gerjets) Grienke in Aurelia, Iowa. She attended school in Aurelia and graduated from the Aurelia High School in 1945. Betty worked for two years as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture at the Capitol Building in Des Moines. On October 5, 1947 Betty married Gerald Anderson at the Congregational Church in Aurelia. Betty was a member of the First Congregational Church where she was a member of Dorchester Circle, Women’s Fellowship, and sang in the choir for many years. Betty was a member of the Pythian Sisters for 49 years, and was the pianist for the group. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing piano, card clubs, Bingo, and fishing. Most important were home and family, where she always had an unlimited supply of food for company. Betty and Gerald spent 24 years wintering in Florida or Arizona.
Betty died Sunday, June 21, 2015 at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.
Preceding Betty in death were her parents, one sister, Darlene and her husband Cliff Menefee, one brother-in-law, Dorrel Huseman, one sister-in-law, JoAnn Anderson, and three nephews; Craig Menefee, Bradley Anderson, and Mel Anderson, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald Anderson of Aurelia, one son, Gary Anderson of Waconia, MN, one daughter Christy and her husband Kent Hyndman of Mankato, MN. Also surviving are two granddaughters; Lisa and her husband Brad Bock of Waconia, and Kelly and her husband Mark Nevermann of Chanhassen, MN, six great-grandchildren; Allison and Cole Seeman, Lauren and Alex Bock, and Joey and Jackson Nevermann, one sister, Myrna Huseman of Aurelia, two brothers-in-law; Melvern and his wife Marylyn Anderson and Gorlyn Anderson all of Phoenix, AZ and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
