mohnwebFuneral services for Arnold Mohn, 97, of Alta, formerly of Aurelia, will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 27, 2014 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, with Rev. Larry Lemke and Rev. Michael Standfest officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia, with military honors by the L. A. Wescott Post # 2253 of the VFW in Cherokee. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M., with the family present, at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia.

Arnold Adolph Herman Mohn was born November 6, 1917 to Claus and Margaret (Hahnkampt) Mohn at Holstein, Iowa. After the death of his parents, his home was with cousins, Henry and Wilhelmina Nelson of Aurelia. He attended country school. Arnold served in the US Army from March 27, 1941 until his discharge on September 27, 1945. He farmed for his brother Eitel until he was married. On February 20, 1949 Arnold married Arlene Margaret Dittmer at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia. They farmed in the Good Hope area until moving into Aurelia in the fall of 1979. Arlene died June 26, 1983. In August of 1985 Arnold married Lamerne (Schulke) Weiland. Lamerne died in January of 2012. In December of 2012 Arnold moved to WelCov in Alta. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Grashoff-McManus American Legion Post #390 of Aurelia. Arnold was a Yankees fan, and enjoyed collecting pens and pencils, attending antique farm auctions, horse racing and watching the Kentucky Derby, playing 500, and his military reunions. He was a devoted and loving husband and father, and was a faithful Bible reader.

Arnold died Thursday July 23, 2015 at the Cherokee Regional Medical Center in Cherokee, Iowa.

Preceding Arnold in death were his parents, his foster parents, two wives, five sisters; Louise, Ella, Elfrieda, Erma, and Edna, and three brothers; Herbert, William, and Eitel.

Survivors include his children, Margaret and her husband Leo Eminger of Maumelle, AR, Joyce and her husband Gordon Sievers of Slater, IA, Brian and his wife Sandy Mohn of Aurelia, and Kristine Mohn of Minneapolis, MN, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two step-children; Dale and his wife Jackie Weiland of Tama, IA, and Doug and his wife Judy Weiland of Colorado Springs, CO, one brother-in-law, Robert Dittmer of Holstein, and two sisters-in-law; Lauretta Skarin of Wall Lake, and Janet and her husband Ron Nielsen of Ida Grove, and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.
