annanewsFuneral services for Anna M. Waddell, 83, of Aurelia will be 10:00 A. M. Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cherokee, with Father Daniel Guenther officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Aurelia. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Redig Funeral Home in Aurelia. A parish wake service will follow at 7:00.

Anna Margaret Pfeifer was born on July 25, 1931 on a family farm in Pierce, Nebraska, the daughter of Frederick and Catherine (Ketter) Pfeifer. She graduated from the St. Bonaventure Catholic School in Columbus, NE in 1949, and then attended the Commercial Extension School of Commerce in Omaha, NE and graduated in 1950.

On September 20, 1952 Anna was united in marriage to Robert P. Waddell at the St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. Robert was stationed in the Navy at that time in Norman, OK where they made their first home. In 1956 they moved to Aurelia, IA, where they continued to live and were blessed with three sons.

Anna was employed at the Cherokee Creamery, Farmers National Bank, Cherokee County Courthouse in the Treasurer’s office, Country Side Estates, and Hardee’s, semi-retiring in 1996. She continued to work part-time at the Social Security Office in Storm Lake until 2005.

Anna’s life centered around her family, church and community. Anna was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, Catholic Church Guild, the Aurelia Catholic Ladies Circle, and Lector. She delivered Meals on Wheels for several years and regularly attended the Aurelia Community Coffee. She enjoyed being outdoors whether it was working in her flower beds or watching the wildlife. She also enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, crocheting, genealogy, oil painting, refinishing furniture, and watching movies. Anna loved her family and often expressed her gratitude for her husband, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anna passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Sunset Knoll Care & Rehab Center in Aurelia.

Preceding Anna in death were her husband Robert on January 20, 1992, her parents Frederick and Catherine, her parents-in-law Charles and E. LaMerne Waddell, three brothers-in-law; Louis Meisenbach, Gary Holst, and Larry Lickiss, and three sisters-in-law; Lucille Pfeifer, Ardiss Pfeifer, and Ruth Ann Pfeifer.

Left to cherish Anna’s memory are her sons; Charles Waddell of Alta, IA, Michael and his wife Jeannine Waddell of Aurelia, and Timothy Waddell of Hawarden, IA, five grandchildren; Nathan Waddell of Des Moines, IA, Brandi and her husband Jesse Haberl of Royal, IA, Danielle Waddell of Spencer, IA, Robert D. and his wife Valerie Waddell of Olathe, KS, Stephanie and her husband Charles Horton of Lilburn, GA, and three great-grandchildren; Grady Waddell and Maia Waddell of Olathe, and Tessa Haberl of Royal. Also surviving are one sister, Julene Holst of Omaha, two brothers; Ralph Pfeifer of Lincoln, NE, and Theodore Pfeifer of Gretna, NE, two sisters-in-law; Marilyn Waddell and Charlene Lickiss both of Aurelia, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
